Google’s Lena Rohou is responsible for the German Google Digital Garage program, whose range of offerings includes training courses in data security

Ms. Rohou, knowledge about data privacy and data security is just as important for private individuals as it is for companies. What training courses do you offer in this area?

At Google Digital Garage, we offer training in digital skills to people who’d like to progress in their own career or help grow their company. Course topics range from the fundamentals of digital marketing to increasing productivity at work. In our courses on data privacy and data security, we explain two-factor authentication – the two-step account login process. We also explain what phishing is and how you can protect yourself from it. Business owners can attend Digital Garage courses to learn how to integrate HTTPS into websites.

How are the courses run?

All our courses are free of charge – whether you’re joining a course at one of our locations in Munich, Hamburg, or Berlin, or using the Digital Garage online platform. The onsite courses last around two hours, and the really nice thing about them is that they give you the opportunity to talk to other participants and make interesting new contacts.

What new skills do participants take away with them?

Of course, nobody can become an expert after just two hours. But it’s enough time to understand the fundamentals and to develop a good feel for how you can navigate the digital world more safely, both privately and professionally.
